Monkeys

Monkeys are mammals because they have fur and have babies alive and feed their babies milk.

All monkeys belong to a big group of animals called Primates.

There are more then 260 monkeys in the world!

The monkey species is rarely seen in Australia.



Bodies

Monkeys have strong tails to help them hang on trees.

They use their tails like legs and arms.

Monkeys have tails, but apes don't.

A Savannah Monkey weighs 6 to 15 pounds.

Rhesus monkeys weight about 26 pounds.

Monkeys use their hands and feet to climb trees.

Capuchin monkeys eat leaves, fruits, and small insects.

Squirrel monkeys look for food on the ground because insects are on the ground, and squirrel monkeys eat insects.

Some monkeys eat bananas without the peels.

Black Howler monkeys eat leaves and fruit.

Taking Care of Each Other

Some monkeys are part of two or three groups.

Most monkeys clean out each others fur.

Monkeys can make friends by looking for bugs or by scratching them.
